The Huawei smartwatch lineup consists of the GT and Watch series, though recently, there was the Huawei Watch Ultimate. The first in the Watch series was the Huawei Watch which was followed by the then popular Huawei Watch 2 which ran on the Wear OS platform, and then the Watch 3, the latest now is the Huawei Watch 4 series which consists of Watch 4 and Watch 4 Pro.

On the other hand, the Huawei Watch GT was the first in the GT series, it was followed by the GT 2, GT 3 and the latest is the Huawei Watch GT 4 and 4 Pro.

Huawei Watch 4 vs GT 4 - What's The Difference?

The main difference between the two series is that over the years, the GT series has always offered two size options while the Watch series is always available in a single size. Though the Huawei Watch series is better equipped with an eSIM that enables cellular functionality that allows the watch to make and receive calls without a phone. The GT series being equipped with a speaker and microphone can also make and receive calls but must be connected to your phone.

As of the time of writing this post, the Huawei Watch GT 4 Pro is yet to be released, so when it drops, I will update this post.

In a few words, the GT 4 and Watch 4 have similar health tracking features and the battery life is also the same, that’s going by the company’s claims. However, the difference between these two is that while the GT 4 comes in two sizes, the Watch 4 comes in one size and has a bigger display size. Moreover, the Watch 4 equipped with an eSIM can make and receive calls without connecting to a phone, meanwhile, the GT 4 must be connected to your phone to be able to make and receive calls.

Furthermore, the Watch 4 features ECG tracking, which is not present on the GT 4. That’s basically the difference between the Huawei Watch 4 and GT 4. Moving on, let’s take a look at the technical specifications of the GT 4 and Watch 4.

Huawei Watch 4 vs GT 4 – The Differences

Design

I think the first obvious difference between the Huawei Watch 4 and the GT 4 is their appearance and the fact that the GT 4 is available in two sizes.

Huawei Watch 4 vs GT 4 at a glance

Looking at their appearances, you will notice that although both watches have circular shapes, the GT 4 has a numeric engraving on the bezel which is raised slightly over the 2D screen, thus providing some sort of protection over the screen (at least less scratches). Similarly, the 41mm unit of the GT 4 also has an even finer design with a bezel raised over the screen. Meanwhile, the Watch 4 has its screen raised over the bezel, which is susceptible to scratches, especially if you do very rough jobs. This is also the advantage the rugged Apple Watch Ultra 2 has over the Apple Watch 9.

Furthermore, the GT 4 comes in 41mm and 46mm while the Huawei Watch 4 comes in only 46mm size. Although, while both watches are powered by AMOLED, the Huawei Watch 4 with a 1.5 inches display that lets you see more at a glance compared to the GT 4 (46mm) which has a 1.43 inches display.

Both watches have stainless steel frames and somewhat durable unspecified glass. They are also both rated 5ATM, which means it’s safe to wear any of these to the swimming pool.

Bottomline, while both watches have outstanding designs, I honestly think the GT 4 is a better-looking watch, it has a more prestigious appearance and looks just like a traditional watch, thanks to its classic appearance. Nonetheless, the Huawei Watch 4 is a fine watch.

Storage

Like their predecessors, the GT 4 and Watch 4 have onboard storage that allows you to add your favorite songs to the watch. Since Huawei failed to specify the storage, I have not been able to ascertain the storage capacity of the GT 4. Nonetheless, going by history, the Watch series has had bigger storage than the GT series. On that note, while the Watch 4 has a 32GB storage capacity, the GT 4 probably has 4GB storage. So compared to the GT 4, you get to store more tracks on the Watch 4.

Activity tracking – Huawei Watch 4 is better equipped

Tracking your daily activities is at the core of both watches. Each of these is equipped to track your steps, calories, stress, heart rate, blood oxygen and sleep in all four stages.

Moreover, both watches have inbuilt GPS with support for both the L1 and L5 signals. So you can expect more accurate mapping of your routes even in difficult terrain with tall trees and high-rise buildings.

Both watches are also equipped with a skin temperature sensor that enables the watch to track your skin temperature. You also get over 100 sports modes on both watches.

However, the Watch 4 features ECG monitoring which is not available on the GT 4. Moreover, the Watch 4 supports diving up to 30 meters underwater.

Making and receiving calls

Both the Watch 4 and GT 4 come equipped with a speaker and microphone that enables Bluetooth calls. You can receive and answer calls directly from both watches.

Meanwhile, the Watch 4 like the Watch 4 Pro comes equipped with an eSIM that enables cellular connectivity, thus making it a standalone smartwatch that can make and receive calls totally independent of your phone. The cellular connectivity of the Watch also means it can download apps and music without your phone. The GT 4 can do all these but it must be connected to your phone. Note that the LTE functionality of the Watch 4 is not available in every country, you can find the supported countries here.

Battery life

In terms of battery life, both watches boast impressive long battery life that will allow you to go days from a single charge. You get up to 14 days of battery life with both watches in typical usage. Meanwhile, in moderate usage, it’s up to 8 days for both watches. Though with heavy usage, the GT 4 has a longer battery life of up to 4 days, it’s up to 3 days with the Watch 4.

Prices

Huawei Watch 4 vs GT 4 Prices

As a result of the bigger display size, bigger storage and the presence of ECG and cellular functionality, the Watch 4 is priced higher than the GT 4. While the GT 4 price starts at £230, the Watch 4 retails at £400. That’s a massive difference in price to pay for the additional features.

Huawei Watch 4 Pro vs GT 4

The Huawei Watch GT 4 also shares a lot in common with the Watch 4 Pro, though the Watch 4 Pro being a higher-end version of the Watch 4 has a more durable build and features than the GT 4.

While the Watch 4 Pro has a titanium frame, the GT 4 has a stainless steel frame. However, the GT 4 is more compact and slightly slimmer.

Huawei Watch 4 vs GT 4 - What's The Difference?

Like the Watch 4, the Watch 4 Pro also has a 1.5 inches display size and comes in only one size. In contrast, the GT 4 has 1.32 inches and 1.5 inches display sizes for the 41 and 46mm sizes respectively.

Furthermore, the Watch 4 Pro is also equipped with an eSIM not present in GT 4. Moreover, the Watch 4 Pro has a longer battery life than the GT 4.

Obviously, the Watch 4 Pro is a better watch than the GT 4. Its worthy competitor would be the yet to be released GT 4 Pro.

Huawei Watch 4 vs GT 4 – Which is Better?

In my opinion, I think both watches are simply fantastic in their respective ways. Both watches are sturdily built. Both also have many features in common with a long battery life.

However, I prefer the design of the GT 4 to the Watch 4. It looks more like a real watch compared to the geeky appearance of the Watch 4. I am a fan of classic watches. The GT 4 (41mm) is also impressively beautiful. And considering that you have the option to choose between two sizes gives the GT 4 some edge over the Watch 4.

On the other hand, the Watch 4 has a bigger display, it also has an eSIM that makes it a standalone watch and it features ECG not present in the GT 4. Going by these additions, it is a more comprehensive watch and of course better than the GT 4.

Please note that the LTE functionality of the Huawei Watch 4 is not supported in every country. The supported countries include France, UK, Germany and Italy. The Watch 4 must be on the same network as your phone and it shares the same phone number with your phone. You should contact your network provider to confirm if they offer any cellular plan for the Watch 4.
