GTR 4 vs GTR Mini

Amazfit GTR 4 vs GTR Mini - Main differences
Amazfit GTR 4 vs GTR Mini – Main differences

In the past, Amazfit had released the GTS 2 Mini and GTS 4 Mini which are mini versions of the GTS 2 and GTS 4 respectively. However, this is the first time there’s a mini version of the GTR series. The GTR Mini is a lower-end version of the GTR 4. Both watches look very similar and will track your steps, calories, heart rate, sleep, blood oxygen and stress level. However, there are slight differences which are listed below.

  • Design: GTR Mini has a more durable case
  • The first difference you will spot between the GTR 4 and GTR Mini is the size. Going by its name, the 46mm GTR 4 is slightly bigger than the 42mm GTR Mini. As a result, the GTR Mini has a 20mm strap size while GTR 4 has 22mm straps.

Moreover, while the GTR 4 has an aluminum frame, the GTR Mini has a more durable stainless steel build. As a result, despite being smaller, it weighs a little more.

Furthermore, the GTR Mini has one physical button while the GTR 4 like older GTR watches, has two physical buttons. Both watches have touch-sensitive screens and are easy to navigate.

  • Display: GTR Mini has a smaller display
  • As a result of the smaller case size, the GTR Mini has a smaller display size. It has a 1.28 inches display compared to the 1.43 inches of the GTR 4. Both watches have displays powered by AMOLED with brightness up to 1000nits. Moreover, the GTR 4 comes with 200 preloaded watch faces including 39 animated watch faces, while the GTR Mini comes with 100 watch faces and 11 animated ones.

  • Bluetooth Calls – GTR Mini lacks Bluetooth Calls
  • The GTR Mini and GTR 4 are both equipped with a microphone that supports Alexa voice assistant and the offline assistant feature. However, while the GTR 4 has a speaker that enables Bluetooth calls, the GTR Mini can’t answer phone calls. In other words, when your phone is nearby and there’s an incoming call, you will be able to answer the calls with GTR 4. That’s not possible with GTR Mini.

  • Music Storage – GTR Mini lacks music storage
  • In addition to Bluetooth calls, the GTR 4 also has 3GB that allows you to store music on the watch which you can listen to offline. It’s equipped with Wi-Fi which is used to transfer music to the watch from the Zepp app. Meanwhile, like GTR 4, the GTR Mini supports music playback control.

  • Location Tracking – GTR Mini lacks dual-band GPS and route import
  • Both watches are equipped with inbuilt GPS, however, while the GTR Mini supports 5 satellite systems, the GTR 4 supports 6 satellite systems. Moreover, the GTR 4 also supports dual-band GPS that enables improved location tracking. You will also be able to import routes to the GTR 4 from the Zepp app and you will get real-time navigational guidance as you explore your routes.

  • Sport modes – GTR Mini has lesser sports modes

Furthermore, the GTR 4 has more sports modes than GTR Mini. It features 154 preloaded sports modes and can auto-track 8 exercises. On the other hand, the GTR Mini features 126 sports modes and can auto-track 7 exercises.

From the aforementioned differences, it’s very clear the GTR 4 is a more complete watch than GTR Mini, but it will cost you a little more.

GTR 3 Pro vs GTR 4

The Amazfit GTR 3 series is succeeded by the GTR 4, however, the GTR 3 Pro with Bluetooth Calls and music storage has very similar features to its successor. So it’s worth comparing these two to help you decide if upgrading is worth it.

The GTR 3 Pro has the same case design, display size and health tracking features as the GTR 4 except for a few additions which are listed below.

  • GTR 4 has more watch faces
  • The first difference between the GTR 3 Pro and GTR 4 is the number of preloaded watch faces. The GTR 4 comes with over 200 preloaded watch faces with 30 animated watch faces. Meanwhile, the GTR 3 Pro is preloaded with 100 watch faces including 15 animated faces. Nonetheless, you can always download more watch faces from external sources.

Both watches have the same 1.43 inches display powered by AMOLED. Navigation on both watches is via touchscreen and 2 physical buttons.

  • GTR 4 dual-band GPS
  • Another difference between the GTR 3 Pro and GTR 4 is location tracking accuracy. Like the Fenix 7 series, Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra, the GTR 4 is one of the smartwatches that support dual-band GPS. The GTR 4 features dual-band GPS with support for 6 satellite systems. This enables location tracking accuracy and makes it a better choice for outdoor exploration than the GTR 3 Pro which lacks this feature and only supports 5 satellite systems.

  • GTR 4 supports route import
  • In addition to dual-band GPS, the GTR 4 will also allow you to import your favorite routes to the watch. This is similar to importing routes to the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. You can’t import routes to the GTR 3 Pro.

  • GTR 4 has a more advanced heart rate tracker
  • The GTR 3 Pro is equipped with Biotracker 3.0 which results in consistent heart rate tracking. Meanwhile, the GTR 4 is equipped with a more advanced Biotracker 4.0. Amazfit claims that Biotracker 4.0 collects 30% more data, it’s slightly more accurate than GTR 3 Pro.

  • GTR 4 runs on Zepp 2.0
  • Another difference between these two is that the GTR 4 runs on Zepp 2.0 while GTR 3 Pro runs on Zepp 1.0. Zepp 2.0 offers a better UI and more apps. From all indications, it seems unlikely, older Amazfit watches will be upgraded to Zepp 2.0. According to this thread, Amazfit seems to be working on ways to be able to upgrade older Amazfit watches to newer operating systems.

  • GTR 4 has a longer battery life

Last but not least, the GTR 4 has a slightly longer battery life. In typical usage, it is up to 14 days of battery life with GTR 4 and 12 days with GTR 3 Pro.

Beyond the differences mentioned above, the GTR 4 and 3 Pro have the same build and look exactly the same. Each of these two has 154 preloaded watch faces and will track your blood oxygen, sleep, heart rate, and stress.

GTR 3 vs GTR 3 Pro

The GTR 3 series consists of the GTR 3 and GTR 3 Pro. These two have the same look and feel except that the GTR 3 Pro has a larger display, and supports Bluetooth calls and music storage. Meanwhile, the GTR 3 has a longer battery life.

  • GTR 3 Pro has a larger display
  • AMOLED powers the display of both watches with brightness up to 1000nits, however, while GTR 3 Pro has 1.43 inches display size, it’s 1.39 inches for the GTR 3. Both watches come with over 100 preloaded watch faces with 15 animated watch faces.

  • GTR 3 Pro supports Bluetooth Calls
  • The GTR 3 and 3 Pro are both equipped with a microphone that supports Alexa and offline voice assistants. However, the GTR 3 lacks a speaker which is present on GTR 3 Pro. As a result, when your phone is nearby and there’s an incoming call, you will be able to answer the call directly on the GTR 3 Pro.

  • GTR 3 Pro supports onboard music storage
  • In addition to Bluetooth calls, the GTR 3 Pro will also allow you to transfer music via WiFi from the Zepp app to the watch so that you can listen to music offline. This isn’t possible with GTR 3.

  • GTR 3 has a longer battery life

So far, the GTR 3 Pro has a bigger display size, supports music storage and Bluetooth Calls which are not present on GTR 3. However, despite having the same 450mAh battery capacity, the GTR 3 Pro has up to 12 days of battery life while GTR 3 has a whooping 21 battery life on mixed usage. That’s a trade-off for the additional features. Moreover, it’s slightly cheaper.

GTR 4 vs GTS 4

The GTR 4 and GTS 4 have the same features, the only difference between these two is the shape, display size and battery life. While the GTS 4 has a rectangular shape, the GTR 4 is circular. Thus, while the GTS 4 has a 1.75 inches display, the GTR 4 has a 1.43 inches display. AMOLED powers the display of both watches with brightness up to 1000nits.
Secondly, while the GTS 4 can last up to 8 days, it’s up to 14 days with the GTR 4.

Beyond these few differences, both GTR 4 and GTS 4 support music storage, and Bluetooth calls and will track similar activities.

GTR 3 vs GTR 2 vs GTR 2e

The GTR 3 succeeded the GTR 2 and 2e. It has a brighter display, more watch faces, and a more advanced heart rate tracker. The GTR 2e is a variant of the GTR 2 series with a longer battery life. These three look exactly the same and have similar features except for slight differences which are listed below.

  • GTR 3 has a brighter display than GTR 2
  • While all three watches have the same 1.39 inches AMOLED display, the GTR 3 has a brighter display than GTR 2 and 2e. It boasts up to a 1000nits display compared to 450nits of GTR 2 and 2e

  • GTR 3 has more watch faces than GTR 2
  • Furthermore, the GTR 3 comes with more preloaded watch faces than the GTR 2e. It boasts over 100 watch faces including 15 animated watch faces which is far more than what you get on the older models.

  • GTR 3 supports more satellite systems
  • The GTR 3 supports five satellite systems while the GTR 2 and 2e support only two satellite systems. In other words, while the GTR 2 is consistent in mapping routes, the GTR 3 is a more reliable location and route tracker.

  • GTR 3 has a more advanced heart rate tracker
  • While the GTR 2 and 2e are equipped with a Biotracker 2.0 heart rate sensor, the GTR 3 is equipped with a more advanced Biotracker 3.0 sensor. The Biotracker 3.0 is able to automatically track your stress level 24/7 while the 2.0 sensor only allows on-demand stress measurement.

  • GTR 3 has more sports modes than GTR 2
  • The GTR 3 comes with 154 preloaded sports modes and can auto-track 8 exercises. Meanwhile, the GTR 2 and 2e feature 90 preset sport modes and can auto-track 6 exercises.

  • GTR 2e has a longer battery life than GTR 3 and 2
  • In typical usage, GTR 2 (new) has up to 14 days of battery life, it’s up to 21 days with GTR 3 while GTR 2e has up to 24 days battery life.

  • GTR 2 has music storage and supports Bluetooth calls

Surprisingly, the GTR 2 will allow you to store music on the watch which you can listen to offline. It also has a microphone and speaker that enables Bluetooth calls. Meanwhile, the GTR 3 despite having 3GB storage capacity doesn’t support music storage and it also lacks Bluetooth calls. Similarly, the GTR 2e lacks music storage and Bluetooth calls.

It’s a difficult call to make between the GTR 3 and 2 considering the latter has music storage and Bluetooth calls while the former has more activity tracking features, a brighter display, and longer battery life. The ball is in your court, you decide.

Conclusion

Rounding up, the GTR 4 has the most features of all the models in the GTR series yet. It is the most comprehensive but will cost you more money. Alternatively, the GTR 3 Pro is a cheaper option, yet a great deal.

If you prefer more activity tracking features over music storage and Bluetooth calls, the GTR Mini is a great choice.

The bottom line, it all depends on your budget and preferred features.
