Today, 10th of July 2024, Samsung officially announced the much anticipated Galaxy Watch 7 which is the successor to the trendy Galaxy Watch 6. The new Galaxy Watch 7 comes with a more advanced Exynos W1000 chipset, higher 32GB storage, and ships with Wear OS 5 out of the box. The new watch which was announced alongside the Galaxy Watch Ultra are the first Samsung watches to have dual-band GPS – a feature we have already seen on Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Garmin Fenix 7.

Like the Galaxy Watch 6, the Galaxy Watch 7 comes in two sizes; 40 and 44mm and each of these is available in Bluetooth and LTE models. Both sizes have aluminum frames with sapphire glass screens. Meanwhile, like its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 6 has a 20mm wide silicone strap that is, interestingly, compatible with the Galaxy Watch 6.

Beyond the durable design, the Galaxy Watch 7 is rated 5ATM which means it is water resistant up to 50 meters for up to 10 minutes. It is also certified IP68 which means it is water resistant up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and also resistant to dust.

While the 40mm unit comes in green and cream colors, the 44mm comes in green and silver colors.

And while the 40mm unit has a 1.3 inches super AMOLED display, the 44mm unit has a 1.47 inches display. Meanwhile, both sizes have the same up to 2000nits display brightness as the Galaxy Watch 6.

The Galaxy Watch 7 comes with 32GB of storage which is twice that of its predecessor. And like the Galaxy Watch 6, it has a speaker and microphone that enables on-wrist calls.

Moving on, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Watch 7 with a whole new processor. Both Galaxy Watch 7 and Ultra are powered by a faster 5-core Exynos W1000 chip which is accompanied by 2GB of RAM. This of course should boast faster performance.

In the health tracking department, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy AI which should help improve activity tracking. They also equipped the Galaxy Watch 7 with an improved Bioactive sensor that ensures improved accuracy with the ability to monitor sleep apnea.

Furthermore, in addition to having inbuilt GPS, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Watch 7 with dual-band GPS which should ensure better location tracking accuracy even in difficult terrains with very tall trees or buildings.

Beyond the introduction of sleep apnea measurement and dual-band GPS, the Galaxy Watch 7 like the Galaxy Watch 6 will track sleep, heart rate, blood oxygen, skin temperature, stress and calories. The watch also features over 100 sports workout modes.

Although performance has improved and storage ramped up, battery life hasn’t changed. While the 40mm unit packs a 300mAh battery capacity, the 44mm packs a 425mAh battery capacity which according to Samsung, you can expect up to 40 hours of battery life. This is the same as that of the Galaxy Watch 6.

As per pricing, the Galaxy Watch 7 costs $30 more than the Galaxy Watch 6. While the 40mm Bluetooth model costs $300, it is $330 for the 44mm unit. Meanwhile, the 40mm LTE model retails for $350 while the 44mm unit has a $380 price tag.
