A year after the Galaxy Watch 4 was released alongside the Galaxy 4 Classic, Samsung on August, 26th of this year, released the Galaxy Watch 5 alongside the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. While the Galaxy Watch 5 succeeds the Galaxy Watch 4, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro succeeds the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Meanwhile, while the Galaxy Watch 5 is available in two sizes, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is available in only one size. The option of size allows you to choose your preferred size. In this post, we’ll be comparing the differences between the Galaxy Watch 5 40mm vs 44mm to help you decide which size is right for you.
Meanwhile, the difference between the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is that the latter has a more durable titanium case compared to the armor aluminum of the Galaxy Watch 5. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro also has a longer battery life than the Galaxy Watch 5 and also features a routes workout that allows you to upload GPX file formats to the watch that gets your routes on your wrist plus turn-by-turn navigation and traceback. The Bluetooth model can also make and receive calls, but it needs your phone nearby.
Difference Between Galaxy Watch 5 40mm and 44mm
The 40mm and 44mm units of the Galaxy Watch 5 have the same features and design but they differ in sizes, prices, and battery life.

The 44mm unit has a bigger case and thus has a bigger display size of 1.4 inches compared to 1.2 inches of The 40mm unit. Although the 40mm is more compact than the 44mm unit, both watches are some of the most compact and slimmest smartwatches you will find.
As a result of the bigger case size, the 44mm has a bigger battery capacity, it has a 410mAh capacity compared to 284mAh of the 40mm unit. Like older models, the 44mm unit with a bigger battery capacity has a slightly longer battery life than the 40mm unit. Samsung claims the Galaxy Watch 5 has up to 50hrs of battery life, you can expect the 40mm unit to have a battery life slightly lower than that.
Because the 44mm unit has a bigger display and longer battery life, it’s priced higher than the 40mm unit. The Bluetooth model of the 44mm unit is priced at $300 while the LTE unit is priced at $350. Meanwhile, the Bluetooth model of the 40mm unit is priced at $280, while the 44mm unit is priced at $330.
The available colors also differ, while the 40mm is available in black, silver, and pink-gold, the 44mm is available in black, silver, and blue colors.
In summary, the 44mm unit is priced higher because it has a bigger display and slightly longer battery life.

Galaxy Watch 5 – What’s New?
The Galaxy Watch 5 has a lot of features in common with its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 4. Like the Galaxy Watch 4, the Galaxy Watch 5 has the same appearance, shape, 16GB storage, microphone, and speaker. Both watches also have the same fitness tracking features except for the addition of a skin temperature sensor that will allow you to measure your temperature (to be added later). Moreover, Samsung has also backported the One UI 4.5 software to include the Galaxy Watch 4 which means you will have the same UI on both watches. One UI 4.5 brings interesting features like a qwerty keyboard, more watch face customization features, and many more. In other words, the Galaxy Watch 5 is very similar to the Galaxy Watch 4.

Unlike the Galaxy Watch 4 which has a Corning Gorilla Glass DX screen, the Galaxy Watch 5 has a sapphire glass screen which is stronger and harder to scratch. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro also has a sapphire glass screen but it has a more durable titanium case unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic which has a stainless steel case. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 have armor aluminum cases.
The Galaxy Watch 5 features a new temperature sensor that will allow it to measure your skin temperature (to be added in the future).
The Galaxy Watch 5 also has a longer battery life than its predecessor, it has a bigger battery capacity. Samsung claims the Watch 5 can last up to 50hrs, that’s 10hrs more than the Galaxy Watch 4. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has a bigger battery capacity than the Galaxy Watch 5 which result in up to 80hrs of battery life.
To enable better contact with the skin, the bottom of the Galaxy Watch series have been redesigned to enable better accuracy tracking.

40mm or 44mm – Which Size is Right For You?
Manufacturers give you the option of size because they want you to choose your preferred size, after all, we all have different wrist sizes. On this note, I have always recommended the smaller unit for women and the bigger 44mm for men.
If you don’t know your wrist size, you can measure your wrist with a meter rule. This will give you an idea of which size is best for you. This way you’re buying a watch that sits comfortably on your wrist.
